Advanced Generation and Bulk Energy Storage
Frontier Energy has been a key research, management, and communications contractor since EPRI’s 2004 launch of the Bulk Energy Storage program.
Approach
EPRI’s Bulk Energy Storage program accelerates the development and commercialization of advanced and flexible power plants and grid scale energy storage technologies capable of balancing growing levels of variable renewable energy to assure clean, reliable, and affordable energy. Frontier Energy has been a key research, management, and communications contractor since the program’s 2004 launch. With an annual budget exceeding $10 million at its peak, the program has engaged Frontier Energy to help develop:
- Program strategy and business plans.
- Technology R&D roadmaps.
- Power plant site tours and technical meetings/webcasts (more than two dozen throughout the Unites States and Canada).
- Technical reports covering engineering-economic evaluations, state-of-technology reviews, O&M best practices, and greenhouse gas life cycle assessments.
- White papers and articles for technical journals.
- Emerging technology databases (synopses of novel/advanced power cycle and energy storage technologies).
- Congressional testimony on the status and R&D needs for advanced power systems with superior efficiency, emissions control, and CO2 capture and storage capability.
- Newsletters.
